This small antique French Bonheur Du Jour writing table desk has a wonderful all round shape & looks good from all angles. The wood looks like Kingwood, walnut & possibly rosewood, plus there are some fine satinwood inlays. It’s also crossbanded & panelled. There is a pierced gilt bronze gallery around the top, which has an inset tooled leather. There is also a matching two tone leather writing surface that slides out & all the leather is original to this piece. This desk has two small drawers in the top section & a larger drawer across the front. The handles, mounts & feet are all gilt bronze & finely cast. This piece is wonderful quality & is one of the nicest examples I’ve had. I would date it to around the 1910 period & it’s in great condition, having just been polished.
