Very impressive large antique Victorian secretaire bookcase from the Arts & Crafts period in solid walnut dating from around the 1880’s period. Please enlarge all the images to see all the great features. The bottom section has a pull out secretaire desk compartment with a tooled leather writing surface, maple veneered drawers & lots of pigeon holes. There are plenty of relief carvings all over the outside of the base section of this bookcase, especially on the two bottom door panels & the secretaire drawer panel. All the carvings have a floral theme, which is typical of the Arts & Craft period. There are other decorations too, like the turned spindles along the base & the reeding on the borders. I particularly like the way the central panels on the bottom doors sit in the middle of four outside panels. The top glazed section has adjustable bookshelves. This bookcase separates into two sections for easier transportation.
