This large antique Edwardian mahogany breakfront bookcase is wonderful quality & has fine satinwood inlays all over. Please enlarge all the images to appreciate all the fine details. The top pediment can be taken off if it makes the bookcase too high for your purposes & obviously it will give the bookcase a different look, which is good, because it gives you two options. Having said all that, this bookcase isn't really that high. The top glazed doors are astral-glazed & the shelves inside can all be adjusted by sliding them into any of the grooves. The bottom cupboards all have beautiful satinwood floral inlays on raised fielded panels & there are single shelves in each cupboard. It also sits on bracket feet. There are many other satinwood inlays on the top, around the doors & even on the sides. I would date this bookcase to around the 1890-1910 period & it's not a made up piece, just totally original. I don't think it will hang around for long either. This piece is in good original condition & structurally sound, with locks & keys. We have just given it a revive & polish, so there will be a bit of old wear to the polish here & there, but nothing untoward. I think it all looks great & I wouldn't want to spoil the character by stripping & re-polishing.
