A fantastic antique William IV period rosewood Davenport of the highest order. This was made in Ireland between 1830-1840, it has an impressed makers stamp that reads “WOODS, DUBLIN”.
It is of amazing quality, beautifully made with many fine features. The leather top writing surface slides forward to give an overhanging workspace. The top has a pierced brass gallery and inset leather top, it lifts up to reveal additional storage space.
There are dummy drawers on one side, the other side has a full bank of drawers, all of which have wonderful brass handles. Above the functioning drawers there is an additional very clever narrow pen holder drawer that opens halfway to a point where it can be locked and swivelled on a hinge. When unlocked, this provides additional secure storage.
The rosewood has a beautiful colour and stunning grain patterns throughout. It is finished nicely on all sides so can be used as a free standing item, the bun feet have concealed brass casters and this rolls smoothly.
We have had this sympathetically re-polished, the condition is fantastic for its age, with just the right amount of patina and wear.
