A fine quality and very rare George III period bijouterie display case / chest on legs, made in England & dating from around the 1790-1810 period. This is a very fine quality piece & in excellent original condition. I should think this was used in a high quality jewellery store.
It is beautifully made from solid mahogany with fine satin wood inlays. It has a glass top with an inlaid and cross banded edge. The top lifts up on a very well made brass hinge which can lock into place to keep it open. Just below the top there are three dummy drawers, and beneath that there are six solid oak lined drawers. The drawers have fine hand cut dovetailed joints, with brass handles and escutcheons.
There are elegant tapered mahogany legs which also have satin wood inlay, and terminate in original brass casters. This is also nicely finished on the back, and is designed to be used a a free standing item.
