A magnificent antique roll top desk in mahogany, with satinwood inlays. This was made in England by Waring and Gillows, it dates from around the 1890-1910 period.
It is of absolutely amazing quality, this is like the Rolls Royce of desks, with many fine features. The tambour top rolls is secured with a beautiful lock and key mechanism, the escutcheon has the makers marked stamped in. The top rolls back to reveal a generous workspace, with small internal drawers, pigeon holes and it even has two compartments that swivel outward for pens and ink. The top sits on pedestals which have four generous drawers as well as a larger central drawer. There are also two additional tray slide shelves that pull out from beneath the top.
The mahogany has fine satin wood inlay all around the edges, with a beautiful colour tine and grain patterns. The brass handles are also extremely well made, with fine details.
We have recently had this re-polished, it is in excellent condition for its age. The mahogany has a lovely patina, and only some minor historical surface wear beneath the polish here and there.
