19th century antiques is generally characterized by simultaneous restoration styles, including Gothic, Neoclassicism, Rococo, and the EastHaven Movement. The plan changes of the late century presented the Esthetic development and the Arts and Crafts development. Craftsmanship Nouveau was impacted by both of these developments.

Antique Elm Spindle Back Windsor Chair

This antique spindle back Windsor armchair is quite old & I’m not sure if it’s 19th or 18th century. I rarely handle antique country furniture, so find it hard to date exactly. This chair is in good original condition with natural wear to the surface polish. There are very slight openings along the front of the arms where there is a join in the wood, but this chair is still structurally sound & full of character. The stability is helped by the fact that it has cross stretchers between the legs.

Antique Elm Spindle Wheel Back Windsor Armchair

This antique elm Windsor armchair is in lovely original condition with plenty of character. It has the two layers of spindles, a central splat with the carved out wheel on the top section. It’s also structurally sound & sturdy, helped by the cross stretchers between the turned legs. I think it’s 19th century, but maybe 18th. To be honest, I’m no expert in this kind of country furniture & rarely handle it.

Antique French Gilt Bronze Table Lamp

Antique French gilt bronze table lamp in the form of a cherub with a lion (I think), mounted on a marble base with more gilt decoration. This is a very attractive small lamp, which still has the old shade, which to be honest is a bit tatty mainly on the inside lining, so might need replacing. It’s also just been re-wired. This lamp has some lovely detailed features & I would say it dates from around the 1890-1910 period.

Antique French Gilt Metal Lamp

Antique gilt metal & brass floor lamp in good condition with two lights attached. In the images, it looks like there is some polished wood along with the metal, but it actually is all metal, including the round base & the round piece above the switch which is coloured metal. This lamp stand is crying out for a nice shade to hang down over the two branches. The top piece will unscrew & screw down on the shade top to hold it in place. You can buy these shades new with the fittings attached. We think it’s French & date it to around the 1930’s period.

Antique Chinoiserie Cake Stand

Antique Edwardian fold up cake stand with the original Chinoiserie decoration, still in good condition with slight rubbing in places. It’s nice to find one in such good order & this one dates to the 1890-1910 period. Originally they were designed to put cakes on, but these days they can have a variety of uses.

Antique Period Solid Elm Windsor Armchair

This antique Elm Windsor Armchair does have a lot of age & is in good original condition. As you can see from the images, it does have usage marks, indentations, etc. However, that's all part of the charm & character of this piece. It's beautifully made & you can see the original dowels that join everything up showing. This chair is also structurally sound. This is help by the wonderful construction & 'U' shaped stretcher between the legs. I'm not really experienced in dealing with this sort of country furniture, so dating it for me is hard. I would say it's at least 18th century, but might actually be older. Also, it may not be elm, but might be yew wood, or have elements of both. This chair would also definitely benefit from a good clean & wax polish to bring out a better colour.

Set of Three Very Large Antique Holy Bibles 1778 , 1813 & 1844

A beautiful and very rare set of three antique holy bibles, each containing the new and old testaments. The oldest dates from 1778, it is Willoughby's Family bible, published in London by J. Wilkie. It's in quite remarkable condition for it's age, there is some minor damage to the spine so this must be handled with extreme care, but all is intact. The next oldest is from 1813, published in Liverpool by Nuttall, Fisher & Dixon. This one also has some damage to the spine, it looks as though it may have been repaired; all is intact but again, this must be handled with care. The third dates from 1844, and was published in Glasgow by Blackie & Son. This one is structurally very sound, but as with all of these extremely old books, must be handled with care! All three have beautiful illustrations, and have beautifully worn covers with plenty of patina and character. It's hard to get a sense of the scale in the images, but these are really quite huge and very impressive. We will not post these, delivery only by hand by a courier due to the fragile nature, we can get delivery quotes to anywhere. Collection in person also welcome.

Antique Victorian Mahogany Partners Desk

This antique Victorian mahogany partners desk is nice quality & in excellent condition. It has a hand coloured tooled leather writing surface & sits on bracket feet with casters underneath. There are drawers on the top front & back. Drawers on the front pedestals & panelled cupboards on the back ones. This can easily be reversed by turning one pedestal around so that you have a cupboard & drawers on both sides. All the drawers are working well, with turned mahogany handles & locks. This partners desk has a very generous kneehole space & is a really nice example, dating from around the 1860's period.

Set of 8 Antique Georgian Style Mahogany Dining Chairs

Set of eight Georgian style dining chairs including two carvers. They have just been re-polished & the seats re-upholstered in a lovely textured cream fabric, which sadly we can get anymore of. The seats aren’t sitting in right in the images, because we took them in a rush & didn’t have time to fit the right ones in the right places. These chairs have shield backs with intricate carvings within. They have square tapered legs with spade feet & there are cross stretchers between the legs to give them more stability.
