This antique painted satinwood gondola stool was made by Druce & Co in the Victorian period. It has exquisite painted decorations all over which are in themselves works of art. The two themes seem to be musical instruments & floral work. Please enlarge all the images to appreciate the fine details. It's in good original condition & has just been polished & re-upholstered. There is a bit of rubbing of some of the paintwork, mainly on the top rail, but there is so much paintwork that one hardly notices. I think it was designed as a dressing table stool, but it could have various uses. We have photographed the makers label too.

As the owner of a fine London home during the early reign of Queen Victoria, a person of note would certainly have ‘Druce & Co’ on their list of places to shop for furniture needs.
Established in the Marylebone area of London, on the corner of Blandford Street and Baker Street (later to be made so famous as the home of Sherlock Holmes by the legendary British writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle), in the mid-19th century, on the site of the previously named ‘Baker Street Bazaar’.
Thomas Charles Druce collated and displayed fine furniture from skilled makers throughout the globe. His son, Herbert, was an integral part of the business – taking over the running in 1864 when Thomas passed away.
With a keen eye for quality the Druce & Co company traded successfully throughout the Victorian and Edwardian eras, the Great War, and into WW2 when, at the end of 1940, German bombers destroyed most of the building and stocks.
This is an original antique Victorian chaise lounge ottoman dating from the 1880’s period that we have had re-upholstered in leather & then hand coloured & antiqued. We have tried to keep the same design which was very practicable & it still has the original feet & casters. This piece is finished off on the back the same as the front. It has a deep buttoned head or arm rest & the leather is hand tacked all over onto the frame. One of the nicest features is the lift up seat, revealing loads of storage inside. There is a leather handle to aid lifting the seat lid up & two straps to stop the seat falling too far back. It’s of quite small proportions too.

Antique Victorian mahogany adjustable piano stool with the original leather upholstery which is still in good condition for it's age & shows lovely character. The leather does show wear & natural ageing, but there are no holes or splits. This stool dates to around the 1860-80's period. The splayed legs are turned & fluted, plus they are joined by cross stretchers. The seat goes up & down with the help of a wooden screw thread. This is a very clever Victorian designed mechanism.

Antique Victorian style hand coloured leather trunk in excellent condition with a lift up seat & plenty of storage inside. The leather is all hand tacked onto the frame & there are brass handles on the sides. This trunk sits on flat bun feet. Although this trunk looks Victorian, I believe it has been made much later or at least re-upholstered. Either way, it's a fine quality piece of furniture & very practicable.

Very stylish pair of antique Swedish Biedermeier elm stools that have just been re-polished & re-upholstered in a taupe coloured fabric. They are in great condition & date from around the 1860-80's period. The side rails have a very interesting shape & they sit on sabre shaped legs. Personally, I think they would look very good at the end of a double bed, but they could have many other uses in the home.

Adapted antique deep buttoned leather upholstered stool on a mahogany frame with six turned mahogany legs. This stool has been completely hand made in four stages. The frame & legs were built by my cabinet maker, then it was hand French polished, then it was upholstered in leather & finally it was hand coloured & antiqued by a professional leather specialist. I have had many of these made in the past of different proportions. This one was made to order for a customer, so I had an identical one made for the shop at the same time.

This round antique deep buttoned leather stool is naturally distressed & the leather is original. It’s quite large, although it’s difficult to judge the size in the images, so please check the measurements. The leather which has a lovely worn in look, is hand tacked onto the frame & this stool has nicely turned mahogany legs. I’m not too sure about the exact age, because it’s quite an unusual piece. However, I would say it dates from around the 1890-1910 period. Although it may well be older than that.
