Fine quality antique Sheraton style Yew Wood breakfront bookcase in excellent condition & with many lovely features. This bookcase is not too large, so would fit in modern homes too.
It has a dental moulding below the cornice, four astral-glazed doors on the top section, four panelled doors on the bottom section, four drawers in-between, a reeded middle edge & sits on splayed feet. The inside of both sections has the original light green paintwork, which compliments this bookcase nicely.
Although designed to take books, it could equally be used for display too. The drawers still have the original felt lining cut out to hold cutlery. This could be taken out & the drawers re-polished, however it would cost extra as there quite a bit of work in doing that. All the doors have ivorine escutcheons & we also have working keys for the locks.
This bookcase is very well made, with fine dovetails in the drawers & beautiful figuring within the Yew Wood.
It’s just been French polished & I would date it to around the 1950’s period. The top section simply lifts off from the base section for easy transportation.
