Stunning & rare pair of antique early Victorian burr walnut open bookcases with original mirrored backs. They are in excellent original condition & date from around the 1860-70’s period.
One on it’s own would be very nice, but to find a pair with the carved mirrored backs still intact is quite rare. I’ve never come across an original pair like these. They would look great either side of a fireplace.
The carving all around the mirrors is very fine & especially the carved floral swags below the top. The mirrors themselves are all original. The top, sides, front sides & the plinth are all burr walnut & the overall colour is original. There are also applied carved corbels attached to either side. The bookshelves are all adjustable on sharks tooth supports & the inside back is panelled.
We have had these bookcases gently revived & polished, so as not to spoil the overall character. Please enlarge all the images to appreciate all the fine features.
