A beautiful and extremely well made antique gilt wood salon chair by S.J Waring (later known as Waring and Gillows). This was made in England, it dates from around the 1880-1900 period, possibly earlier.
The quality is superb, the frame has profuse, crisp and intricate carving throughout including beautiful rams head motifs on the arms. It stands on fluted legs, has scrolled arm rests, it is well padded and comfortable. It is a lovely size, perfect for use as an accent chair around the home. There is an original makers label seen beneath the seat.
The condition is excellent for its age, we have had it re-upholstered in a cream cotton fabric. The frame is in lovely condition, with no shakes or wobbles, and a great patina. There is just some age related surface wear and distressing to the gilt finish on some edges, commensurate for age.
