This antique Edwardian games table has a duel purpose & can be used for cards or chess, so it's a very practicable piece & is also fine quality. The use of woods is very clever. The under-frame is mahogany or walnut, the top when closed is walnut & the top edges are figured walnut with other woods involved in the chess section. Closed up it just looks like a normal square side table. One of the legs swings open to support the baize lined card table section. This games table is in excellent condition & dates from around the 1890-1910 period. There is also a concealed drawer on one side, to put the cards & chess pieces in. The legs are tapered & have cross stretchers making them more stable. Who ever designed this piece really thought it through.
