A wonderful and quite unusual antique Georgian period mahogany writing / games table. This was made in England, it dates from around the 1790-1810 period.
It is designed as a typical writing table of the period would be, except the middle drawer has a two sided playing surface, one side with a chess / draughts board, the other with a backgammon board. The playing surfaces are beautifully inlaid with various woods, there are two regular drawers on either side. This has a solid mahogany top and turned mahogany handles, it stands on slightly splayed legs that terminate in brass casters. The back is also nicely finished, so this can be used as a free standing item.
We have had this recently re-polished, the condition is excellent for its age. There is some minor wear and patina here and there, commensurate for age.
